PIERS2019 Rome Focus/Special Sessions
SC3: Photonics for Lab-on-Chip
Organized by Prof. Giampiero De Cesare (Universita degli Studi di Roma ``La Sapienza'') and Prof. Domenico Caputo (Universita degli Studi di Roma ``La Sapienza'')

Session's Information:
Lab-on-chip technology is gaining great interest due to the many possibilities that it offers in the fields of life sciences, ranging from massive parallel analysis in genomics to point-of-care testing devices in medical diagnostics. Recent devices integrate on a single substrate micro-sensors and/or actuators elements and microfluidic networks, yielding a sensor-like system able to actuate each step of biological and chemical analysis, such as sample preparation and treatment as well as detection and quantification of the analyte. In particular, the aim of this special session on “Photonics for Lab-on-Chip” is to bring together researchers on “on-chip” molecular detection technique based on the use of integrated photonics devices, including photosensors, optical filters, interferometers, grating couplers, micro-ring resonators and other novel nano-photonic transducers.
