PIERS2019 Rome Focus/Special Sessions
SC3: Visible, Near-infrared and Beyond: Materials and Devices 1
Organized by Dr. Silvia Maria Pietralunga (Italy Chapter Chair IEEE Photonics Society) and Dr. Jonathan D. B. Bradley (McMaster University)

Session's Information:
Photonic materials and devices in the visible and near-infrared bands and beyond (i.e. extending into the UV or mid-infrared) are increasingly appealing to extend the spectral region of applications in communications, sensing, monitoring and emerging areas such as quantum photonics.
In this Session we seek to highlight new fabrication methods for materials and devices enabling advanced photonic approaches. In dependence on the spectral range addressed, we focus on dielectrics, semiconductors, composite and hybrid material systems and glasses. We also focus on novel functionalities created by these materials systems.
We solicit papers on the following topics: novel active materials, fiber optics materials and applications, thin film photonic materials, integrated optics and photonic systems, rare-earth-doped devices, sensors, lasers and related applications.
