SC3: Sensing Technique Enabled by Convergence of Radio and Optical Technologies
Organized by Dr. Tetsuya Kawanishi (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology) and Prof. Akihiko Hirata (Chiba Institute of Technology)
Session's Information:
Enhancement of public safety and security is highly demanded in usual life as well as in big events such as Olympic Games. Coming trillion sensor era, which will be relied on a sensor network, may enhance the safety; actually, many sensors based on an optical fiber Bragg grating have been already installed in oil mine plants to detect strains of the facilities. The combination of traditional radio-wave-based sensing and optical ones will pioneer new fields of sensing technologies. This special session focuses on sensing techniques empowered by combination and convergence of radio and optical technologies for realization of novel sensing applications: for instance, millimeter-wave high-resolution radar system with large coverage area by use of optical fiber network technologies, low-cost integrated optical circuits for disposal high-sensitive biomedical sensing, visualization of electromagnetic waves by EO sensing, and so on.
