PIERS2016 Shanghai Focus/Special Sessions
Design of Radio Astronomy Antennas, New Challenges
Organized by Prof. Chengjin Jin (National Astronomical Observatories, CAS)
Session's Information:
Since the birth of radio astronomy in 1930s, it has helped us to gain a deeper understanding of the universe in many ways. Examples include the early discovery of the radio emission from the galaxy, the Cosmic Microwave Background, the discovery of the neutron star and the sharpest view provided by Very Long Baseline Interferometry, etc. In the meantime, the special requirements of radio astronomy has pushed relevant technologies to grow into a somewhat independent discipline. Though the current technology has already allows observations in almost all the radio frequency range, there are still technical challenges desired to be tackled for a more comprehensive and effective exploration in the parameter space for radio astronomy.
