PIERS2019 Xiamen Focus/Special Sessions
SC2: Novel Methods for Sound Manipulation Based on Intriguing Physics
Organized by Prof. Zhi Hong Hang (Soochow University) and Dr. Min Yang (Acoustic Metamaterials Group Ltd.)

Session's Information:
Sound manipulation is important in applications from noise control to remote sensing and telecommunications. Because of the high surface reflection due to the air-solid contrast, the conventional manipulation techniques were usually restricted to geometry design for reflection controls. If we apply the recent development in physics, like metamaterials and topological states to acoustics, novel properties to media and boundaries can be designed which will profoundly changes wave material interactions. A revolution in sound manipulations is expected. This session aims to exhibit the recent progress of sound manipulations and explore their fundamental physics and constraints.
