Advanced Photonic Technologies for Energy Harvesting
Organized by Prof. Feng Yan (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) and Prof. Zhiyong Fan (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology)
Session's Information:
Solar energy as the most important renewable energy source on the earth is always the major target in the studies of energy harvesting. Various advanced techniques, including photovoltaics, solar fuels and thermophotovoltaic, based on photonic principles have been developed in recent years. This session centers on the science and application of advanced photonic concepts and mechanism employing novel device architectures and materials systems as well as new physical concepts. It will focus on emerging technologies related to photovoltaic, solar fuels and thermosphotovoltaics et al and research that impacts a solar energy harvesting system is also of interest. The aim of this session is to bring together scientists, engineers, and technologists with multidisciplinary background to discuss and review the state-of-the-art in research and application of novel concepts to the next generation techniques for solar energy harvesting.

The scope of the conference will cover the following areas:

•nanoplasmonic structures for photovoltaics
•novel materials and concepts, including thin films, for solar energy conversion
•organic, inorganic and hybrid solar cells
•quantum dot, quantum well, nanowire and nanotube solar cells
•solar fuels
•Photocatalysis, artificial photosynthesis, water splitting
•nanostructures for light management
•spectrum conversion mechanisms including up- and down conversion
