PIERS2017 St Petersburg Focus/Special Sessions
Semiconductor Quantum Structures, Microcavities and Polariton Lasers
Organized by Prof. Alexey V. Kavokin (University of Southampton (GB)) and Prof. Ivan V. Ignatiev (St. Petersburg State University)
Session's Information:
Semiconductor quantum structures enabling the tailoring of energy structure and optical properties encourage a basis for fundamental research and variety of applications. A number of fascinating effects is based on the strong light-matter coupling, including the Bose-Einstein condensation of exciton-light quasiparticles (exciton-polaritons), polariton lasing, polarization multistability, terahertz-wave generation, as well as various magneto-optical effects in hybrid structures. In this section, experts in the fabrication and optical spectroscopy of crystal structures exhibiting strong exciton-photon coupling will discuss the recent fundamental advances and device applications in this field.
