PIERS 2008 in Cambridge will be held in the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, overlooking Boston. The hotel is situated along the scenic Charles River overlooking downtown Boston, adjacent to MIT and convenient to Harvard and Boston Universities. This years banquet will be held on the Charles View Ballroom on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, with a magnificent view of the Charles River and the fireworks that will occur on the 4th of July. The city of Boston is the biggest city and the capital of Massachusetts. It was founded in 1630 and was established as a city in 1822 as one of America's oldest cities with a rich historical culture. With its surrounding and neighboring areas, it is also the center of higher education and the economical hub of New England region. The city of Cambridge, also founded in 1630, was known as Newetowne until 1638 and was established as a city in 1846. Situated directly across the Charles River, it is one of the original cities founded along with Boston. Boston's weather in early July are warm days with cool nights with the least amount of rainfall of the year. Daytime temperatures average 74oF (23oC) with an average high temperature at 82oF (28oC) and average low temperature at 65oF (18oC). Boston is home to the first subway system in America and has grown to an extensive public transportation system. The public transportation system is operated by the MBTA or also knows as the “T”. You can easily travel across the city and neighboring areas by rail, subway, bus, or boat. The typical subway fare is $2.00 USD and it allows you access to any line and to any direction. The typical bus fare is USD $1.50 and provides you access to locations where the subway cannot.
