SC4: Recent Diagnostic and Therapeutic Applications of Microwaves

Organized by Prof. Marta Cavagnaro (Sapienza University of Rome) and Dr. Lorenzo Crocco (CNR --- National Research Council of Italy)

Session's Information:

Microwave technologies have been widely employed for medical applications. This special session will cover recent diagnostic and therapeutic applications of microwave technologies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following areas: Diagnostic: - Microwave tomography for cancer detection - High intensity MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) - Non-invasive microwave thermometry - Wireless wearable/implantable medical devices - Advanced wireless capsule endoscopy Therapeutic: - Thermal therapies (microwave hyperthermia, ablation, etc) - Surgical devices (microwave coagulation device, etc) - Human-body phantoms for compliance and testing Numerical and experimental studies devoted to characterization of dielectric properties of biological tissue (both healthy and malignant) as well as to development of treatment planning techniques are welcome as well.
